When ever I tell someone that I am biking across the continent then flying to Australia usually the first response is “you’re crazy!” or the like, then I am asked why. People ask if I am doing this to raise money for research on some deadly disease or to bring awareness to ugly babies or some other noble cause. In truth I am doing this for myself and myself alone, selfish right? I am not belittling ugly diseases or deadly babies but simply being honest when I say that this adventure is for myself and I would only be lying and degrading what I am doing for myself AND demean the people who are trying to find cures for diseases and ugly babies. I would like to think that you don’t need a large hairy man crossing the country in fancy spandex cycling panties to tell you to support some noble cause, you know what is near and dear to your heart, act accordingly.
That being said, if you feel the desire to support me, who am I to tell you no? I would love the opportunity to volunteer in Africa for a couple of months. A great friend turned me onto a program http://www.volunteerhq.org/. Now this is a great program that would allow me to educate communities on conservation or work in an orphanage in places that till now only existed for me in the pages of a Hemingway novel. It is a great program and very affordable. Unfortunately getting to Africa is not, but if you are kind enough to help a little bit and possibly even to pass this along to others like yourself I would love the opportunity to fly to Africa and spend several months helping out in any way I can.
Thank you,
Greg
